And here we are, the Bride to Be and the Maid of Honor on a wedding research expedition! Couldn’t pass up a Photo Booth!
How did I end up in good ole’ So Cal and what is that I do? The Story..the abbreviated version.

The Entertainment or Film Industry landed on my must-pursue list probably
before I was a thought in my parent’s heads. This is Jan and Sam (aka “the P’s”)
doing a night on the town in an Akron, Ohio night spot, shortly after they were
married. My father was a jazz musician; a premiere tenor sax man, with Mel
Torme smoky tones and a smooth vocal style. Producer of the creative/performing DNA—

Mom & Dad - Recently Wed & Out on the town
The year following my graduation from St. Mary’s (girls only thank you very much) High, the P’s moved to Denver, Colorado where Mom started her career as a high school English teacher. Producer of the creative/literary DNA―
My family: This is late ’80s New Years Eve and I’m in Denver with several of my siblings (seven in total) celebrating. Sorry for the black and white graininess, but it’s one of the favorites of me with my sibs. We’re playing around: Robyn is being harassed by our younger brother Corky and the back of her head is to the camera. One of my early 8X10 professional shots sits on the coffee end table. What can I say…baby sister Robyn was a dedicated fan…it’s her house.
The P’s, brothers, sister, brother-in-law and nephews at a recent Sunday brunch in Denver. This is me with the P’s last spring. And other shots of my family
Robyn is my heart. Leslie, who lived next door to the folks in Denver, is Robyn’s best friend and a sister to me too.
Hollywood beckoned soon after I obtained my B.A. in Arts and Communications from the University of Colorado in Boulder. My acting life stretched out over a decade and a half and there are stories to tell, but there’s not enough cyberspace. If you’re interested, you can view a partial list of my credits.
Janet and I met after my career had peeked and I was exploring other career paths. What began as a working relationship always felt like so much more to me….this many years later…I think I was right.
(I did book the Star Trek gig after I met Janet though and as one of my most fun jobs is a definite highlight)
My published writing credits cover a gamut of areas: from social issues, human interest stories to entertainment articles. If you’re interested take a gander at a couple of my most recent entertainment articles (once there, scroll down to DVD releases to see THE LAST DETECTIVE and THE COMMANDER Reviewed by Darwyn Carson)
After meandering for a bit, I returned to school at UCLA to study PR and Journalism; landed a position with Verdon Cedric Productions where I worked as Sidney Poitier’s right hand for over four and a half years. Here I am with the man; the quintessential officer and gentleman:
Currently I am with Leonard Maltin and just finished my first year as Managing Editor of Leonard Maltin’s Annual Movie Guide; a position I hope to remain in for a bit. The 2010 edition is dropping in August. Be sure to pick up your copy.
Whether reading or screening material for pleasure or research, most of my discretionary hours still involves the literary and film worlds. I’m about two-thirds of the way through my great American novel, (here’s my writing group on a retreat in Santa Fe) and the goal is to have a polished draft within the next six to seven months. Fingers crossed.
Which brings us up to date and approaching the event of the year, Janet and Phil Forever. These two souls continue to aid me in keeping my heart’s path supple and green. Here I am with Janet and one of her closest friends and bridesmaid after a night of wedding preparations. What fun!
Where to go from here? The only thing I know for sure is that I’ll be seeing you August 29th in Santa Barbara!
