Richard Bence

Richard is a native of Wyoming, he was born in Casper in 1949. His father was an architect and his mother a homemaker. In 1963 the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. He attended University in St. Louis, New York and Massachusetts. In the late 1970’s he began working as an exploration geologist and travelling overseas. In conjunction with his geological work he became proficient in various computer skills which led to his meeting Phil in Los Angeles in the mid ’80s.

Despite long periods of residence overseas, he and Phil have maintained a productive business and personal relationship. He relocated in 1993 to Portland, Oregon where he still resides. He is currently active in exploration projects in Africa, S. America and China, and research and development work here in the U.S.

His interests include rock climbing, mountaineering and alpinism, breeding Pembroke Welsh Corgis and Swedish Vallhunds, collecting meteorites and rough diamonds, marlinspike seamanship (knotting), and vegetable gardening.
